Cebu City Fire this Morning

It’s not new to me to hear a firetrucks’ siren sing almost everyday. Yes! Believe it or not, there’s always a fire anywhere in the city of Cebu.

This morning, when I was about to go to Miller Hospital, a second fire this day happened in Barangay Pasil, Cebu City.

I was able to capture a photo of the smoke while riding on a taxi cab. Just bear with my hand image. Smiley

6.9 Magnitude Earthquake hits Cebu City

At around noon time yesterday, a 6.9 magnitude earthquake hit Cebu City and other areas in Visayas..

It was such an unexpected event for me and for every Cebuanos since warnings and other signs were not announced. Good enough no casualties and badly hurt in the city but in other areas in Visayas, a number of people were hurt and even died.

Fire Solution in Cebu City

When I and some classmates, who are not originally coming from Cebu City ~ just came and stayed here to study, once have had dinner and was able to share thoughts about the possible solutions which need to be done so to lessen the fire victims. We know that fire incidences are merely accidents. No one plans, except who really did, to have fire happened but generally, no one wants to get burnt.

We really pointed out the victims. What we mean is that the fire won’t easily scatter to the point of eating by burning those 100-meter away houses from the point where the fire originally started. The best thing to do is to make each houses and building concrete. Perhaps, steel buildings are far better to live in Cebu City.

Another thing is to refrain from overcrowding a very small area just to build and make a house to live.

Those basically are what we were trying to point out.

Noontime Fire in Cebu City

Could you believe that in my fourteen months of stay here in Cebu City I personally saw more than ten fire events just in the city itself?

The worst thing among all? It was the fire just 100 meters away from my apartment last June 2011. The fire happened early morning around 1:00 AM. Next to that fire event were those two different fire events happened around the vicinity of our school, from the nearby houses of Southwestern University along Urgello Street. The first fire even where a part of our school – the Maritime College building was put into fire happened last year, if I still have the correct figures, it happened around August 2010 last year. And the latest fire event in school was still on June 2011 where in the Natural Science College was also burnt.

The very latest fire even I saw was yesterday noontime. Just timely when I about to check the ATM of  the Land Bank of the Philippines along P. del Rosario Street, huge black to gray colored smoke was almost to cover the whole are of the street due to the very recent fire. I didn’t know where exactly the fire was, I’m not really particular and certain with the streets in Cebu City yet. But I took a shot of the smoke.

Pardon with my image here. It’s not really that of good quality compared to images taken by a digital camera. I just made use of my iPad camera in taking that image. Rest assured, nothing edited on that image but just the watermarks.

Accordingly, one of the main reasons why there are fire events happening in Cebu City is because of the poor electrical wiring management along those crowding small houses wherein the owners are into renting businesses and even making internet cafes available for students. There, in fact, no surface raceways for cables and wires on there houses. I guess, this is one point which the government should put an eye on to.

If M has lost his ATM card few weeks back, me – I have lost my school identification (ID) card.

This is, actually, not the first time I have lost my school ID card. As far as I could remember, I guess, this is the third time. Getting a new one is just easy like a student should just go to the legal office of the university, apply for an affidavit of loss that is signed by the school’s legal officer or lawyer. As soon as the paper is ready, all one need to do is to pay for the new ID card in the cashier’s office and bring then the receipt in the ID room. In the ID room, nothing more hassle to do but to fill up the identification form and then smile. Just that simple.

However, I still find it very time-consuming to think like I need to fall in line to each of the offices that I need to check. First, in the legal office, before, when I get my first affidavit of loss there when I lost my first ID card, I waited almost two hours before the lawyer came. I asked any of the staff if I could get one affidavit of loss outside the school, she said that it is not allowed. Only those papers released by the school’s legal officer are processed and accepted in the school. Oh gosh! So I waited then, patiently. Good enough I have had no classes that time!

Another, in the cashier, oh c’mon, the cashier teller for college of medicine in school is only one and I still need to fall in line – stand by there for maybe less than an hour before my turn.

And lastly, in the photo booth in school, I mean, in the ID room. There is still long lines of student in a very small room to be entertained.

Hey, before I forgot, every time we request or paid for something processed in school, it always will reflect on the student’s assessment or ledger which I really don’t like. My mum would surely know what my transactions in school would be if that happened. In fact, the previous year, when I lost my two IDs before, mum knew it just on summer of this year when she requested a copy of my ledger in school.

Waaaah! I better get myself some California rehabs, for me to make my mind from losing, always losing my ID card.

Well, this is my fault. But I didn’t want to lose my ID, in the first place. But I should face any consequences now. School ID card is very important. Gosh! I better apply for one this Monday.

Moody Weather Weekend

I was supposed to hunt for something cool to do last weekend like going to the beach, do trekking, bird watching using a hunting binoculars or anything that is an outdoor thing . Just missing those environment-friendly stuffs I used to do before when I was in college.

But since the weather here in Cebu City is not that friendly to me, it seems like a woman experiencing PMS. A very mad moody woman, it may seem; one cannot predict when and how long a sunny hours would take and suddenly, a heavy windy rainfall came. Urgh! I ended up, last weekend, staying in the house of my classmate’s uncle and slept over there for just 3 hours.

3-Hour Nap in Brookfield Subdivision, Lapu-Lapu City

Ernhez, my classmate in medical school, brought me to his uncle’s house in Brookfield Subdivision, Lapu-lapu City this morning. He just fetched me up in one of the nearest malls from my apartment here in Cebu City since I have had a transaction earlier this morning. After which, I still had my manicure and pedicure and then, we drove to Lapu-lapu City.

After an hour drive, if I am not mistaken, we finally arrived at his uncle’s house. As what Ernhez used to share to me, his cousin was the very first to welcome us. His cousin, I forgot the name, is very talkative. She likes to talk and even play with me. Being not-so-close to kids, I just played in a while with his cousin. She moved her toys from her room to the living room. She put all of her clays which are formed into cakes in their sofa that is looking like a bench indoor-style.

Not too long playing with the 3-year old kiddo, Ernhez and I went to the mall in Lapu-lapu City to buy us some ice cream. As soon as we finished our shares at home, we both fell asleep. LOL! This is really our problem, the both of us. Every after we finish eating and feeling full, we always feel so sleepy. Even in school, we are feeling sleepy as well that sometimes we can’t stop ourselves but to take a nap even inside the library.

We really took a nap, as we call it. At first, I was hesitant to lye down in the sofa and was about to look for just an outdoor furniture bench. But since it was very hot outside and I was feeling really sleepy then, I just opted to take a nap in the living room. But the nap turned to be a sleep that we both wake up only after 3 hours. LOL!

Small Puppy’s Fault

On our way back home after our Bacolod City trip last May 2011, the taxi that I and M were riding on was bumped by another taxi behind us. I am not certain if the taxi driver could get some compensation claims, though wasn’t hurt but the bumper of the cab he was driving was really broken.

The scenario was this.

The the cab we were riding was following an adventure car which was operated by a young lassy aging around, if I am not mistaken, early twenties. We, the cab we’re riding, the adventure car and the cab next to us, were on the fast lane. But the cab we’re on was just driving around 60 kilometers per hour that suddenly, the adventure car before us, stopped because of the small puppy passed by in the middle of the road. So the cab we’re riding suddenly stopped as well. In just less than a minute, we, the driver, I and M, were just shocked that we were just bumped strongly. Good enough, we weren’t hurt. But the bumper of the cab got badly damaged.

Conscientiously, it was the girl’s mistake. We were on the fast lane. She knew, she was aware that we are following her and sure to have more following after us as well. But she just immediately stopped in the middle of the street. However, when the police came, only the driver of the cab next to us was sued for reckless driving because, according to the law, it was really him who bumped us and not the adventure driver before us. We didn’t called injury lawyers then because the policeman has settled the case already and brought the two drivers in the office.
